Miss Plainwell: Most adults already know you care. And most kids have no attention span. Mrs. Olsen: What about everybody else? Miss Plainwell: Everybody else is Frazz. Frazz: You did a wonderful--Hey, there's a chipmunk in your planter. What happened to your arm?

I like this strip very much, but its use of speech balloons sometimes puzzles me. In most comic strips, the two balloons in panel 2 would be spoken by the same person because they are connected. Or both characters may have been assumed to speak the same balloons. It sometimes takes me just a second to realize that, in Frazz, they are spoken by two different people.
I’m all for gaining new ground, and Frazz certainly does its share of that. But adopting a more standard use of speech balloons would not compromise the strip one bit.

Interesting that no one has commented regarding the fact that her hard-nosed no-nonsense approach is a cultivated image; suggests that perhaps she knows that she and her students are playing roles in a sort of game (RPG of sorts, I guess) and this is how her character is supposed to act, and the kids have their roles as well.
