The submarine USS Thomas Edison had a full-size Steinway piano on board! Austrian composer Arnold Schoenberg, who suffered from a fear of the number 13, was born September 13th, 1874, and died on Friday, July 13, 1951. The word mugger comes from the name of a species of Indian man eating crocodile.

Another waste of tax dollars on the piano. Just like the $10,000 toilet seat.

The $10,000 toilet seat was more of a cover for the bank of toilets in a big troop transport plane. It locked down and sealed the entire bank of toilets so that even when undergoing evasive maneuvers the cover would remain locked and sealed.
Speaking of the Thomas Edison, that was the boat my husband was on back in the early ’70’s. They had some very expensive sledge hammers made of a special bronze-like alloy that would not spark, but was strong enough to be used to bash sticking valves. Pipes and valves and hatches can do odd things when under a lot of pressure underwater, and when a nuclear power plant requires attention it requires it right now, and sometimes the only solution to breaking something loose is a good whack with a 5-pound sledge. And not having it spark is just a good idea when your plant may be leaking odd gases.
Funny thing is, he was on that boat for three years, and never mentioned the piano to me.

I don’t have to worry about that crocodile because I’m not an Indian man.
