Out of curiosity, do vegetarian/vegan dog owners give their dogs meat-based dog food? I’m semi-vegetarian (I eat meat, tofu and veggie burgers now and then) and I had never owned a dog.

Cast MUST have meat, if they don’t get enough, they can go blind.

According to a recent study, dogs evolved to digest starch when they became domesticated: http://www.the-scientist.com/?articles.view/articleNo/34095/title/Dogs-Adapted-to-Agriculture/

Google “raw meat diet for dogs”. Or cats. Grains are bad enough for humans, let alone carnivores. If you’re really lucky you’ll find a local farmer who makes pet food from grass fed beef but the odds are against you. Grains get taxpayer subsidies, making industrial food-like products appear to be cheap.

I’m vegetarian but I feed my dogs food with meat, and even get them McDoubles from time to time. They shouldn’t have to be vegetarian too!

Dogs, like humans, can go a day or 2 with food, it is supposed to be good for you – not that I want to. Dogs can also get nutrition from bone meal, so bones are good for them.

Dogs are genetically close to pigs, who are genetically close to us. Dogs are quite happy to eat vegetables (as long as there is some meat). All of my dogs have stolen vegetables from the veg rack and eaten them.

I can’t comprehend how anybody can call anything without meat, & especially beef, a “burger”! You can call a cockroach a butterfly, but that does NOT make it so!!!

It’s called a “burger” because there is no other description. Shall we call it a beef patty, a lamb patty, a pork patty or a soy patty?.It’s the same as the phrase “meat loaf”….To me loaf = bread.

    Please be tolerant…it’s only words.
