It is interesting to look at this period in the Peanuts history when the likes of Peppermint Patty, Franklin, Marcie, Woodstock and eventually Rerun came on the scene, while the likes of Shermy, Patty and Violet faded away or disappeared altogether. I know that some disagree, but I believe that Schulz was great at re-tooling and renewal.
Cooncat gets post of the day, that was GREAT!! And thanks a lot for putting that song into my head as an earworm…
One of the fun and aggravating things about Peppermint Patty is that she totally lives in her own world, has no filters, and never considers that her ideas or remarks are not appropriate or might be flat out wrong. She’s a pistol.
Peppermint Patty is one of those great fictional characters who, as soon as you meet her, you know exactly who she is. Schulz came up with her from looking at a plate of peppermint patties on a table before him. It was like Athena springing fully formed and fully armed from the brow of Zeus.
Lucy was surprised to be called Lucille huh!!!! she said ’Lucille? Chuck?"..yes it was amazing that Lucy was speechless…but like I keep saying Peppermint Patty cool huh!!!!!!….she liked Charlie Brown called him Chuck and more importantly didn’t call him names like Lucy did

For the record “Lucille”, “Chuck” was also surprised when Peppermint Patty first called him “Chuck.”

I love the strips with P. Patty. So much more lively. …Charlie, I see your point: Chuck Tuba makes no sense whatsoever.
