In 1667, the French physician Jean-Baptiste Denys performed the first ever blood transfusion, giving sheep's blood to a 15-year-old boy- who survived! Not very ladylike! The Rebecca Riots- in 1840 Wales, angry male farm workers rioted against toll roads dressed in drag, naming themselves Rebecca and her daughters after a Bible verse. In May 2013, the Louisiana State Capitol building was invaded by water snakes migrating from nearby Capital Lake!

Blood transfusions were dangerous enough in the beginning. Before the 1900’s when the first three blood types were discovered. Using Sheep’s blood though? He would have a better chance with a Milk transfusion, and yes, they used milk before finding out saline solution was safer.

Two human survivals after Denys sheep’’s-blood transfusion are attributed to the small amount of blood transfused. (See Wikipedia for full story – it’s fascinating, and involves a murder.)
