I would be willing to be that Brad Pitt was not even a twinkle in his Dad’s eye back in the day when you could buy an entire mackerel for only sixty cents.
I wish they wouldn’t try to update this comic. It’s the “classic” part that has me coming here. If I want to hear about Brad Pitt, I will go stand in a Wal-Mart checkout line and glance at the tabloids while I wait my turn to buy cheap Chinese goods.
If I saw the original name, I would know the joke instantly because of the context, then I would immediately wikipedia/google the new name and learn about them.

Brad Pitt wasn’t even born when this was drawn.

Some of these strips have been “updated” with references to Sean Connery, Julia Roberts, Tom Cruise, et cetera.

I agree with you 100%. An update like this makes no sense!!

Obviously been updated. Why? This is a classic comic and anyone who reads it should know.
But great line, the minute I saw it, I thought of you. Sounds like something Groucho would have said.

Keep it original….even if it means publishing it in original black and white.

I wonder who the original punchline mentioned.

Check it out: They even changed it to Brad Pitt in the Spanish version.(my guess for the original: Clark Gable)

My guess as well, as I’m betting this strip is from the 1930s
