    I substitute teach a lot. When I take attendance, the first thing I say is “OK, let’s make this easy. Everybody who’s not here, raise your hand…” Some get it right away, and shoot their hands up, others look like deer in the headlights….

    OK, I heard that Susan……PerkyCat, you’re absolutely right. A good sub gives out the message that everything’s going to be OK, because some students suffer anxiety when there’s a sub…They’re afraid that the jerks in the class are going to do things to get the whole class in trouble. I just let them know only the bad actors get in trouble in my classroom..
