Monty by Jim Meddick for August 29, 2013
Transcript:
Please, sir... Don't tell me you're already neglecting your academic duties! Oh Jarvis! Don't be a nag! As I recall, you have a homework assignment... You are to create a diorama depicting Abraham Lincoln's modest origins... All right! All right! I'll go down to the workshop and tend to it... I do so dread having to supervise these construction workers...

Honest Abe didnāt begin sporting a beard until shortly after he was elected.

I assume the little Abe Lincolnās figure actually chops wood for that cost that is being expendedā¦ā¦..

Iād guess that Ma Barker, there, and the boys, donāt like a lot of supervision from a pint-size rich twerp.

I think thatās Steven Spielberg in the red shirt. He recently did a film about Lincoln, so it would make sense.

Iām sure that Jarvis, on Young Masterās behalf, would hire none but the most skilled Hollywood model makers. So just sip your grape soda there, Sedgwick, and let the experts complete your homework assignment.āBut, as good as it is, I bet that somehow Nigel Farnsworth IIIās will be even better!

On the plus side, itās refreshing to see a kid enjoying a rocking horse nowadays.

this strip is hilarious today. Spielberg, genius. Please give these two there own spin off cartoon. this would be a great tv cartoon.

No spin-off, it would be too much of a good thing. But Sedgie did change his clothes. In reality, he should have his own horse in the stables.

It would not be sufficiently outrageous for TV. I long ago gave up on Southpark (and have not even TRIED some of the newer ones) but I do enjoy Family Guy and always liked the Simpsons. Raunchy is OK as long as the writing is good and it is not simply gratuitous.
I try to keep a good collection of comedy on TiVo upstairs (never watch anything serious before bed- it can interfere with sleep). Last night I just watched Hot in Cleveland and The Exes (mostly during my bath).

It may seem that Jarvis and Sedgie could carry their own strip, but itās Meddick doing the carrying and producing ā and I doubt he would look forward to the inevitable burnout. Monty is a labor intensive strip compared to many. The excellent writing doesnāt come without finesse editing and research until he gets the right phrasing ā and thatās just the dialogue. Jim rarely gives us simple ātalking headsā panels ā his compositions are excellent, and a lot of work, too.

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a spoiled rotten kid, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created lazy.

Although you could probably fill volumeās with this kid, but there IS such a thing as too much of a good thing.
