I think tri-corns are cooler. I’d like it if they made a comeback.

He did it to preserve the union, not to abolish slavery. He finally issued the Emancipation Proclamation to piss off the South.

Not slavery per se. The winners wrote that history. It was about States’ self-control vs Federal control. The Feds have been abrogating more and more power over the rights of the states and of the people ever since.

Night-Gaunt49: There was a statement against slavery in the original Declaration of Independence, but Massachusetts and South Carolina refused to go along until it was removed. South Carolina was the distribution point and Massachusetts provided the shipping. It was all about slavery, but not entirely about north/south. I don’t even have an oral tradition for this period because my family never spoke about it – they weren’t just on both sides in the war, but two and maybe three battles! At least I am solidly on the US side, which is more than I can say about the CS majority of those posting.

Bogy: Treason (levying war against the United States) was certainly involved, but was it the cause or effect of slavery? [rhetorical question]

Didn’t they already have a librarian as an adventure hero? Noah Wyle played him in two or three flicks. (I think they were TV movies.)
