True thing: styrofoam turns into a glassy lump in the stomach in a reaction with stomach acid.
The reason I know this is that a surgeon of my acquaintance had to remove a lump of this glass-like substance from the stomach of a man who had apparently been in the habit of nibbling the edges off his styrofoam coffee cups and swallowing them.

So, um, yeah. I wouldn’t recommend it.
