So, the Lone Ranger and Tonto come riding into a town. The Lone Ranger sees a bar and he wants a beer, but he knows they don’t let Indians inside.
The Lone Ranger thinks for a moment and says “Tonto, I need to go in there and get some information, but we might have to leave in a hurry and our horses are tired and may fall asleep. So I need you to stay out here and keep our horses awake. The way to do that is to run around in circles around the horses; that will create a draft and bring in fresh air which will keep our horses awake!”
“Aye, kemosabe,” said Tonto, and with that the Lone Ranger went inside.
The Lone Ranger had a beer and then ordered another. He walked to the door and looked outside, and sure enough, Tonto was dutifully running around the horses. The Lone Ranger chuckled to himself and returned to the bar to enjoy his beer.
Then a townsmen burst in through the door and looked at the Lone Ranger and yelled “Hey, stranger! Is that your white horse out there?”
There was a Far Side comic with the Lone Ranger as an old man looking through an Apache dictionary. The word Kemosabe was defined as being “A horse’s a$$”. Maybe it was?

Yes. Long into retirement, The Lone Ranger was chagrined to learn that Kemosabe actually means the south end of a northbound horse.

Reminds me of that Disney movie about the crime-fighting, tabby Indian and his faithful white companion.

He must have seen the new robe and bird hat the movie studio plans for him to traipse around in.
