Tanks and armored cars would render horse-mounted Cavalry obsolete as a first-line combat arm (though they’d still be used in both the Logistics/transport and Reconaissance roles) by the end of the Blitzkrieg in Poland at the beginning of World War II — almost exactly 40 years later!
