Zen Pencils by Gavin Aung Than for December 16, 2013
Transcript:
I bargained with Life for a penny and Life would pay no more. However I begged at evening when I counted my scanty store. For life is a just employer He gives you what you ask. But once you have set the wages. Why, you must bear the task. I worked for a menial's hire. Only to learn, dismayed that any wage I had asked of Life... Life would have paid. -My Wage by Jessie B Rittenhouse

Every life has value. Never give up.
I have been very fortunate (as well as determined in each of my goals). I expect to continue a very full life in good health and enjoying all of the greatest delights (including seeing great grandchildren now that grandkids are graduating college). I have outlived most who wished me ill.

I wish that I had known all I had to do was ask Life to make me rich.I’m sorry, I don’t see it as being that simple. I think Life gives you what it wants you to have and it’s up to you to make something of it.

I had to memorize this in 5th grade, about when the author died. She was 78, famous, and by all accounts had a rich full life. It was understood in those days that the “bargaining” included the work and effort you would put forth, in work and relationships.
