I thought that when people retire, they either buy a brand new car to last them for as long as possible or buy a never-ending series of cheap vehicles held together with gaffer tape.
You can bet the mortgage that had Opal stopped arguing it certainly didn’t mean she agreed (or that the argument had ended). It meant she was reloading (argumentatively speaking, of course).
Funny! We moved from SoCal to Idaho. Our car has front wheel drive. We are trying to decide whether to buy all weather tires or an all wheel drive car. Never lived in the snow before. Every time I think we’ve agreed what to do, he changes his mind.
That’s what a certain party says about other people’s money when he’s spending it like water. At least Earl is spending his own money if he chooses to do so.
Earl had no choice but to clam up. Refusing to participate in the conversation is really the only defense against the ole’ “I’m going to argue my side until you’re exhausted and agree,” a favorite tactic employed by women, especially old wives. The women prefer of course if the men surrender out of sheer frustration and agree to their demands.
At our house, silence at the end of a “discussion” is taken as affirmative. Wait a couple days for “processing” and whatever it was about will be HIS idea.

What do you care, Opal? It’s not as though you have to drive it. Or pay for it.

I usually agreed just so she’d stop talking, and then later claim I changed my mind.
