Then that must be very thin glass, judging from how far Verne’s nose and RJ’s elbow extend.

In my profession, which involves a lot of graphics, diagonal lines like that are the indication for glass.

Why did they turn their heads to the left?

@bubbarebThe window is closed. They are behind the glass (outside) in the first panel. Not so in the last panel. And you don’t have any concern that they hear and understand speech through a closed window and speak the human language themselves?

And for the appropriate sound effect …
