Alice: I don't get it. Why do dining room chairs have ladders on the back? Petey: The cavemen invented them. Alice: Huh? Petey: It used to be sometimes they didn't cook, the food very well and it'd come back to life and chase them. Petey: And they'd climb up the ladder to escape. Alice: Mom! Petey: Don't ask Mom about it! You'll awaken painful memories!

The cave is deep in our memories.

So…. they didn’t completely kill their food before they incompletely cooked it? Recipe for disaster.

This has basically been a rerun of 2008. The strip that ran December 28, 2008 (3 days after Christmas) was about gifts Alice received. Instead of running that here, this is the strip from January 4, 2009.I personally don’t understand why the strip was skipped — 3 days after is OK, but 4 days isn’t??This is a Sunday strip (doesn’t have to follow an arc); this is the first Sunday after Christmas, just like December 28 was in 2008.

I always thought kids invented the ladder back chair so they can get to things on shelves and from the top of the refrigerator.

Our seven-year-old “Alice” wants to make a comment again: They have ladders because then you don’t fall over!

My big brother used to say things like that. But I was so gullible, I never thought to ask my mom if he was correct. I just assumed he was. Duh.
