It annoys me in basketball that deliberately fouling an opponent is a sound tactical maneuver. You go from giving up 2 points to only giving up 1 or even 0, and late in the game, you have to foul just to get the ball back.
Should be : On a 2 point play, the fouled opponent gets 3 shots (4 on a 3-point attempt) and late in the game, instead of having to go to the line, the fouled team can elect to take the ball at the halfway line with a fresh 24 seconds.
I like the part about being able to take the ball out of bounds instead of shooting the free throws. Internationally, I believe that is an option. I don’t like the extra free throws. There are too many as it is. More would cause fans to tune out.
When you make no attempt to play the ball and deliberately foul a player, that’s a technical foul. Pure and simple. Start calling it and this nonsense will go away. I did find it mildly amusing that D’Antoni decried that “Hack a Howard” last season when Howard was with the Lakers, but then saw fit to employ that same strategy when Lakers played the Rockets earlier this season.
It always bothered me that when someone’s job is to throw a ball through a basket, and he has very little ability to actually do that, could still play the game. Have some pride, man.
Basketball was better in the old days. Now they’ve made the hoop too big and too easy to hit, and they should never have stopped sacrificing the captain of the losing team….-Cougar :{)
