Air mail would set you back a whole 8¢ in 1966.

Lucy thinks she’s off the hook now…Linus knows that chipping in her “thank you message” in his letter gets her off his case…and makes her look lazy and cheap.

In 1966, I could’ve bought two matchbox cars. I loved matchbox cars back then and I had quite a collection.

The first square originally had “DECEMBER 25” in the original 1966 running of this strip.

And since this is the last 1966 strip, tomorrow we might see the start of 1967 Peanuts strips unless we go back or way back or further or way further.

And regarding this strip: 1) Linus was happy to get $1 – Today it would by $5 or $10! 2) An air mail stamp? Postage stamps (Forever mostly) will be 49 cents instead of 46 cents starting in late January 2014.

Back in the mid-70s, an airmail stamp to Japan or Korea for a normal sized letter envelope was 33 cents. And my mom thought that was exorbitant. I had penpals—the only reason I was allowed was that there was usually a month-long lag between letters.

In 1966 I could get two regular hamburgers and a large Coke at McDonalds (didn’t like fries back then) for 35 cents.

Lucy doesn’t need any help in looking bad. She accomplishes that very will on her own.

that is what i was thinking James, and AirMail Stamp, that was first class then, this may have been written when the post man made two delierys a day too. I thought it was an older strip or Lucy was using the formal name of a stamp. But this was a cute strip today

$25 would buy a week’s groceries after we were married(40 years ago), a sixpack of beer, a couple of large pepsi bottles, and a carton of cigs. our apartment was $115 all utilities a mo.
