Around the corner....I have a friend... in this great city that has no end. Yet the days go by and weeks rush on and before I know it...a year is gone. And I never see my old friend's face...for life is a swift and terrible race. He knows I like him just as well. As in the days when I rang his bell and he rang mine but we were younger then. And now we are busy, tired men, tired of playing a foolish game. Tired of trying to make a name. Tomorrow I will call on Jim. Just to show that I'm thinking of him. But tomorrow comes and goes and distance between us grows and grows. Around the corner... yet miles away. Here's a telegram sir. Jim died today. And that's what we get... and deserve in the end. Around the corner... a vanished friend. -Charles Hanson Towne

As my grandmother often told me, “no matter if you’re young or old, when the good lord says it’s time to go, it’s time go.”

My goodness, that makes me uncomfortable. The problem with being my age is that you have lots of folks that you wish you’d kept in touch with…

So much easier to find those friends and keep in touch on Facebook and other social networks these days. But still so sad and I know the feeling to lose those old friends who died when you were not looking.

I bet this resonates with a lot of us today

Beautiful, sad, timely, poignant. Reminds me of the song “The Cat’s in the Cradle” which is about fathers and sons. Bravo, and thanks for the wake up call …. (Isn’t it odd that sometimes the deepest friendships get the least attention?)

This one hurt. I had a best friend, one so close I called him brother. Alzheimers took him away; it took his memories. It would have been kinder if it had taken his life…

Hmmm….it is sad how this happens. This could be me.

I REALLY wasn’t ready for this.

You have your preferences, I have mine. That’s how I was raised. As for you, I don’t who (or what) raised you.

That’s the irony, isn’t it?

Ouch.

@Josh Lyons: I, uh…don’t suppose so….That was my “extremely original” way of expressing how the strip made me feel. Thank you?
