“Comme un cheveu sur la soupe” = “like a hair on the soup” in French; it means " unwelcome".

“Waiter, what’s this fly doing in my soup?”“Hmmm, looks like the backstroke to me, sir.”

IMO, the best “fly in my soup” gag was the one in Mel Brooks’ Silent Movie. If you haven’t seen it, see it.

I thought that strange too.
