In more technical terms, the acceleration of a body is directly proportional to, and in the same direction as, the net force acting on the body, and inversely proportional to its mass, F=ma.
My brother, our buddies and I used to pile on those rides. We’d put in a quarter and watch the pony struggle against our combined mass. Ahhh, I miss those days of taking child’s entertainment to it’s mechanical limits.
