To AmyGrantfan: It appears the strip is alluding to âA Pirateâs Life for Meâ written by George Bruns and Xavier Atencio in 1967 for the Disneyland theme park and later used in the movie âPirates of the Caribbeanâ.
First stanza:
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirateâs life for me.We pillage, we plunder, we rifle, and loot,Drink up, me âearties, yo ho.We kidnap and ravage and donât give a hoot,Drink up me âearties, yo ho.
Another commenter referred to (and I am not familiar with) the comic operetta âPirates of Penzanceâ (by Arthur Sullivan and W. S. Gilbert). The strip may be a tip-of-the-hat to the song âRollicking Ban of Pirates Weâ. Perhaps . . .
I donât like gnats. Spiders kill gnats and eat them. I like spiders. Spiders are welcome to make their webs in my home as long as they are in the dark corners out of sight.

Well, a splattered spider does sort of resemble the one star (review) that Garfield is about to give.

Forget it, Garfield â youâve got to be pretty tough to be in show business!
