An o-o-o-ldie from my high school days back in MCMLXV:
Long time stick shift guy buys his first automatic. Shortly afterwards, walks back to the dealer.“First I put ’er in L for Leap and she really took off”“Then I put ’er in D for Drag”“Then I put ’er in R for Race.”“That’s what I wanna talk to you about.”
And that is why new cars come with reverse lockout. I almost did that on the interstate with a manual. Too many people in the truck. Fortunately, the tires lock instead of actually ripping out the transmission.
Hilarious strip today! This actually happened to a couple of friends back in the mid 60’s when we were in high school. One of the guys had a ’53 Buick with a Dynaflow. I actually pulled the stunt when we were out together, and it pretty much did nothing. Of course, with a Dynaflow it was pretty much hurry up and wait!.The other friend had a ’61 Ford Falcon, and did this accidentally. He said he forgot he had an automatic, and was trying to shift into second. Anyway, unlike with the Buick, the car was hurriedly brought to a stop, and actually started going in reverse! In his case, he is certain what he did actually improved the performance of the Ford-O-Matic transmission…
Good morning and happy ‘safe’ Turkey day to all CD’rs.Power out here since 4:30pm yesterday. Running on propane. Heat and electric, water pump. Peace. :)
I learned this procedure for dismantling an automatic transmission: First start going as fast as you can in reverse, then turn the lever to “D” for dismantle!
Good morning all! Had to stop in to say Happy Thanksgiving to you. Hope you have a great meal!If its not thanksgiving where you are, then enjoy it anyway!(its 2 below zero farenheit here and I am freezing when I go outside, but the grands wanted help building a snowman, so what could I do? – lol -)
Cool! I thought R was for "Relax! It’s for "Repair!, Or “wReck”, lolHope my southern friends are having a great Thanksgiving Day. By now, yo are in a semi-stupor, of course. Sleep it off, and start all over again!
I stopped watching that game, before the end of the 3rd quarter, Fellow Baby. I chose to watch Carson clips from the 60’ & 70’s instead. There were some great clips from that collection. From the tomahawk chop to the show that Martin and Hope upstaged by a third-rate entertainer and more.
No, it doesn’t, Shika. I’ve never seen goose in stores, but if you can go by the Christmas Carole, goose is a Christmas fave in Britain. Number 6 could shed some more light on that if he’s around.
Oh, and I never did see Turducken in Canada, but I was always aware of its existence while I lived in Canada, because John Madden, former football coach and color commentator with CBS and FOX sports was a big proponent and salesman for the product. They always had a feature on it, and a presentation after the game for the MVP.
I started my day with Shirley Temple, that littleprincess, and I will end my day with her, though I doubt that I will see it to its conclusion unfortunately.

As a former Canuck, you’d never, ever have caught me dressed like that latter pic, whether in fahrenheit or celcius – unless +40c!!!

I spent most of my younger das in Montreal, but spent the last 2.5 in Edmonton. It was cold there by my standards even in summer.

Happy, what else did you get besides rain? Did you do anything for Thanksgiving?

How was your turducken, Grog! I have never tried that. If you added goose, you could have a goturducken, although it doesn’t sound so great, does it?

Now all FOX has is a rediculous thing called the galloping gobler – an ugly tin trophy that nobody really wants any part of.
