If only they’d filmed some Kilgore Trout stories.

I can think of a wonderful role for him. It involves my dinner plate and some butter and lemon.

He tried too soon. Now, he could have been in Finding Nemo or Finding Dory,

@ X and Happy …. Interesting things (to me, anyway) about “Venus on the Half Shell”:

As I’m sure you know, Kilgore Trout was a fictional author, a character in several Kurt Vonnegut novels….

one of which, “God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater,” contained a fake “excerpt” of Trout’s supposed novel “Venus on the Half Shell.”

Philip José Farmer got permission from Vonnegut to actually write the novel, including that excerpt…. which he then published as Kilgore Trout.

I recently read that at some point, the use of his character’s name annoyed Vonnegut, who claimed to be ripped off…

and he forced the publishers to re-issue the book under Farmer’s own name.

Also… Vonnegut was friends with Sturgeon, and amused by his fishy name…. which he has said inspired Kilgore’s surname, “Trout.”
