Here in NC (SC too – but not sure how wide spread in the rest of the southeastern US) a ‘fish camp’ is a seafood restaurant. They are known for deep frying the fish in some kind of a batter coating – corn meal etc. – and for serving up French fries, fried hush puppies, and cole slaw. A lot of them were on a river, lake etc. where there were actually small camps like JP guessed where the fish were caught. The most famous place for them was the NC town of Calabash. Jimmy Durante’s “Good night Mrs. Calabash…. wherever you are” is allegedly based on him passing through once and eating there. http://www.townofcalabash.net/

Fish camps are kind of dying off like drive in movies did. They’re not that popular with the younger crowd.

Anyhow……….. this CD made me think of fish camps when I saw it today.

TCAR, when we lived in Fayetteville, I remember Fass Brothers Fish House! We ate there a lot, back in the day! I guess they have been out of business for a while now, sadly. Good memories! And in these parts, a fish camp is like a hunting camp! LOL!

Good late evening Fellow Baby, cleo, SUGIE and all ye’ gathered here!
