So would they force the 2-point play, or just get rid of it all and make TDs just 6 points (or 7 points)?

I like rugby’s method for scoring extra points: wherever on the width of the field the try (what a touchdown is called in rugby) happened, that’s where the kicker takes his kick from. So, if the ball went into the end zone on one side of the field (instead of straight down the middle), that’s where the kicker kicks from, about 20 yards from the end zone, with no defensive rush to try to block the kick. (The kicker gets all the time he needs to make his kick.) Because of this rule, there are a lot of wide-angle kicks, and I’d guess that the conversion rate is around 70%. This makes for a more interesting game, IMO, because there’s no guarantee kickers will make their extra points, which are worth 2 points instead of 1.
