Thereâs nothing wrong with using one of the devices to help control a child who wants to run ahead. It gives them some freedom, but itâs under control. Better than holding them by the hand because they can slip from a personâs grip and be gone. I used something like this when my kids were younger in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Then, for whatever reason, this type of control went âout of favor.â Now they make animal backpack type things which can be used.
When I was taking care of a grandson several years ago, I didnât have a playpen any more and wasnât going to buy one for the short period of time that I would need it. I used a four foot high wire exercise pen with a pad underneath and put that out in the yard so my grandson could play outside with his toys. We didnât have a fenced yard at the time. He also had time to run around the unfenced yard under supervision.
Some kids probably would need a top on a playpen. Otherwise, they could climb out and get hurt or get into things.
I think both moms need to be watching whatâs happening at the other end. Both of the âchildrenâ should be on shorter leashes and next to them so they can be watched.
I donât see Fredâs owner in either panel. That means heâs at the end of the leash. He should be kept on a shorter leash when out in public. He doesnât need to be heeling, but should still be close to his owner and kept under control for his safety and that of others.

The sad part is that when Fred has finally had enough and snaps at mommaâs little darling, she will blame Fred for being a âviciousâ dog.

Not a snarl, heâll be thought to be a vicious animal that needs to be put down. But a loud wimper should help.
