My little brother used to wander the house making “sucking” sounds. We couldn’t figure out why till we pinned him down and discovered he was sucking on handfuls of Gravy Train dog food.
My niece’s pit bull Samantha likes to put frogs in her mouth. She doesn’t eat them, and will spit them out when asked….but she really likes doing this during night walks.

Could be a toothbrush. Doug’s probably seen enough to know you stick it inside your mouth and chew.

I once used a very MOM voice on a stranger’s puppy out for its evening walkies. “SPIT THAT OUT!!!!”.It worked.
