Those Butterfingers in the outfield, though, are a big Zero…. when it comes to the Crunch they’ll just Take Five.

I know they’ve done an endorsement for the Dairy Milk association…. but so far, they’re big Milk Duds.

And Bev…. no, actually, you were right…. and you beat me to the punch with Baby Ruth.

Babe Ruth had just hit 54 home runs, and was at the height of his popularity the year the Curtiss company changed the name of a candy bar to Baby Ruth.

They wanted to cash in on his fame, but couldn’t afford to pay him…

So they made up a story about naming it for the Clevelands’ daughter.She’d once been adored… but had died many years before, tragically, at 12, of diphtheria…. which would be a very odd choice for popularising a candy bar.

Eventually… very eventually…. they admitted it, and the current manufacturers bought the rights from the Ruth estate to use Babe Ruth in their ads.
