It does seem that the motive was the cookies. I never have a dog, but that makes sense. Cuddles would just request my food by leaning forward with her mouth open to be fed (she expected a share from my plate and preferred to eat from a fork).
Veteran - My little black dog (a schipperke, 14 pounds of trouble and a foot high) was an expert at being everywhere and anywhere she could make me trip….
First I thought it was accidental…then I decided It was a way to get attention…Eventually I started to suspect it was sometimes to make me drop food she could grab.
But in middle of the night she had nothing to gain…. she squealed when I stepped on her.So I used to look in her probable direction and sternly command her “Turn white!”….an order she thought was completely unfair…
But if it miffed her enough, she would sneeze at me … on purpose….which she did when she was impatient with me…And at least that pinpointed her location.

Perhaps if Neal joined Troy’s balance class, he might be able to pirouette, jeté and plié through Mickey’s traps and maybe remain upright….?!
