Nobody says this. But the way test results are applied is, and that’s a fact. The privatizers rely on the ridiculous, politically correct theory that all kids are equally talented and that, if they don’t all learn at the same pace, it’s the teacher’s fault.

Tests are liked because it’s just another tool to throw blame on the teachers with. We have so beaten down teachers, the simplest decisions can’t be made because of possible repercussions.

Studying for the test doesn’t constitute learning.

All public schools should be closed. All public school teachers should be fired. Education should be entirely privatized. The results will be fabulous, of course. I am not quite sure what we’ll do with the students the private schools will not accept, but we can worry about it later. Only when we privatize education can we let the market govern what happens in the schools. I do worry about fewer people in the future wanting to become teachers. It is a reviled profession in which success can be hard to come by. I know I wouldn’t want to pay for 4 years of college for my daughter to become a teacher knowing that if she makes any mistakes, she will be fired and will not be able to get another teaching job. Seems like a bad investment to me.
