Dearfoam jack boots….THAT’s funny!!! What a picture in three words. When I was in 7th grade, my mother had just died. I don’t know what possessed me, but one day I took myself to a beauty parlor. I don’t know what possessed THEM but they ended up giving me a beehive. The next day, my teacher in my parochial school made me stand out in the hallway until I had combed it out. If you can imagine…all the teasing…all the hairspray. I totally empathize with Agnes here.
Night… referring to the seductress, indeed. Pre WWI magazine stories and the like often spelled it out… ie, “the pretty little vampires, with their ruby-tinted lips”.
But the vamp of a shoe has nothing to do with seduction or vampires… it means the top of the upper, the part that covers the instep, between the toes and the ankle, whatever part of that is covered.
oh dear me. My response to teacher would have landed me with the Principal. “Please take your seat”. …. “Where would you like me to take it?”.sigh. sorry. my bad. couldn’t help it. I must have been still all agog over those bright red, 8 inch high stilettos.

Probably some sort of display shoes…. put in the dumpster afterward cos they think nobody’s foot is long and skinny enough to actually wear them.
The vamp has to match the rise of an 8" heel, and the foot still needs to extend into the toes.
Agnes’s toes go all the way into the point, which is usually empty.
What size will she wear as an adult??These heels are about a 13½ AAA.

Trout has remarked on the amazing, almost Don Martinesque size of Agnes’ feet many times.

It comes from a different root altogether, AFAIK.
