what??? 149. 8115-8184 (28 July 1965-16 Oct. 1965): John Celardo/John Celardo, [The Castle in the Jungle](70 days) skipping for some reason over 148. 8031-8114 (21 Apr. 1965-27 July 1965): John Celardo/John Celardo, [Tarzan and the Chinese Plot] (84 days) NOTE: Never reprinted! anyone know what this story was about that it made it “not acceptable to reprint today”?
what’s that smell? Is that the smell of censorship? In todays “politically incorrect” society are we not allowed to see what happened in the past and make our own judgement on the content? Guess not.
I also just read it. As a whole it is a good story, but individual daily strips taken out of context would probably offend the casual reader not aware of Tarzan’s set-up plan.
So now Tarzan’s a “Gay Swinger”? What next, disco clothing, and new hairdoo, some man-tan makeup, and YSL colonge? Maybe the leopard toting natives will turn this into a good tale? :)> LooseTheLeopardsAGowa!!
News Flash! Everybody (all the humans, at least) in this strip is strangely garbed. And they’re almost all armed, too. Sheesh, Some of ’em even have tanks, jets, and PT boats.
There is a sequence in the story where a tribal chief commits suicide. Also, the depiction of the Chinese in the story is typical mid-20th century racial stereotyping. These are probably the reasons they decided to skip this story.

So we’re not doing the Chinese plot storyline after all those days of talking about it?

Tarzan must have some ballet moves in him. He can balance on that branch on one toe.

P. S. — the story is available at Bill Hillman’s website, ERBzine. Look for #s 4630-4636.
