When I get to the place where I can’t get around on my own anymore and have to be assisted to live, it comes to mind that assisted to die might just be a good thing. And no, I’m not all depressed and feeling sorry for myself. It’s just that once you pass a certain quality of life, there’s no point to living anymore. I want to go with at least a little dignity left and requiring someone to do even the smallest things for you doesn’t leave you with much of that. It’s much more dignified to say, “I gave her hell and it was fun, but now I’m moving on.”
I love Maxine’s take on this. And as a nurse I have seen way too many families want to hold on to a loved one even though they are in horrible pain and unable to even breathe on their own. Sometimes the “miracles” of modern medicine aren’t!
Imagine not being able to see the page.
Imagine not being able to hear the word.
Imagine not being able to feel the warmth
Imagine having a choice for your own existence.

In life ‘tis always better to be tried by twelve–rather than carried by six.

Sounds like a veiled reference to the far-right wacko theory that the current administration’s proposed new health plan would include euthanization…
A little heavy for this strip - and outside my comfort zone for the funny pages. Political commentary belongs on the editorial page.
