Would-be mass shooters will be stopped at one victim. Then themselves, of course.

Really its the same problem facing any large group. The most attention gets payed to the small extreme part, to the point that MOST people come to think of the nutters as representative of the whole. The real sad part is that those who are victims of this are often guilty of applying it to other groups themselves.

On the right is an individual NRA contributor, on the left is a manufacturer-serving NRA

The reality is that the NRA will defend either one of those scenarios.

BTW, doesn’t the guy on the right look a lot like Cliven Bundy…?

Sorry, Gary, but at our recent gun show, in our local gun club, and in the Democratic Gun Owners Caucus I belong to, as a gun owner and concealed carry permit holder, the strong NRA backers ARE the guys in the left drawing, and the responsible, reasoned, GUN OWNERS are the ones to the right, and they definitely do NOT wear NRA labels. If the NRA was about rifles, sport shooting, and hunting, as it used to be, instead of defending military style weapons, armor piercing ammunition, and other “nut stuff” in unregulated civilian hands, things might be different.

It’s “interesting” that NRA says on the one hand, punish people who use guns illegally, but then in the same breath say, don’t do anything truly effective to keep them from getting those guns in the first place! And anyone who thinks they need more than five rounds in a rifle to go hunting, or more than 12 rounds in a pistol magazine to defend themselves in any CIVILIAN situation, shouldn’t be “packing” in the first place. When two of our local cops some years ago, each emptied THREE full clips at a guy who fired a .22 pistol at them, and missed, and they never hit the guy either, less than 30 feet away from them, I questioned THEIR training as well. The guy, btw, put his second round fired from his revolver, in his own head, ending the standoff, that killed a service station, several used cars on a lot, and a defenseless building across the street in yet a different direction. (by police bullets)

Molon: you might want to review the L.A. Bank of America standoff between robbers and cops, the “bad guys” had automatic weapons, and full body armor. You might also check out the dozens of “gang banger drive-bys” occurring almost daily around the country involving automatic, not just semi-auto weapons. The actual fact is however, a semi-auto weapon with a big magazine is MUCH more effective than an automatic, for actually taking folks down, not just keeping their heads down, in an actual field situation.

The horrible lesson at Gallipoli wasn’t so much the dominance of the machine gun, as the stupidity of military “leadership”. Such wave invasions are not what you see on the streets, so like on Omaha beach years later, lining folks up and running them toward machine guns has mass casualty effects. From the Revolutionary war, through the Civil War, to Iraq and Afghanistan, it is the sniper who’s had the most targeted, and effective, role in changing history: Lee Harvey Oswald is also an example.

So according to Varvel, NRA members only have concealed guns?

It’s like the “perception” of a political cartoonist sitting thinking at a drawing board vs. the “reality” of him doing his work in front of a TV permanently tuned in to Faux News.

Sorry if I sound rude, but… those things just aren’t true. Hunters generally don’t use 15-30-rnd magazines—competition shooters do. And it’s VERY illegal to “modify a weapon to full-auto”. Many people also collect antique firearms, the way wealthier people collect cars. Do you want us to seize and burn someone’s collection of old Smith & Wesson revolvers?

Finally, no law allows people to carry in schools, and NO law permits anyone to drink while armed.
