I never chase them away. I simply put out more seed and everyone is happy. I only use black oil sunflower seeds and everyone like them, including chipmunks. I don’t mind feeding all my critters.
With a house full of cats it is cheap entertainment where nobody gets hurt. Feeders at all the windows and mirrored window tint so the birds and squirrels can’t see the cats and everyone is happy. Even a couple humming bird feeders so everyone gets to eat.
They are allowed to eat what falls on the ground or at the feeder I have for them but they are not allowed to feed at the birds’ feeders. I will chase them, blast them with an air horn or other things. I have been known put the food away to keep the squirrels out of it. Eat what I provide you, not the birds. Please. The annoying thing is we went over 20 years without having any squirrels in our area. Guess the foxes and coyotes aren’t doing their job any more.
I’ve never understood the near hatred of squirrels. I guess they are too uncommon around here for anyone to develop that much animosity towards a rodent.Gophers, on the other hand ….
Try a Yankee Flipper bird feeder.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PBya—psxINot only does it keep the squirrels out of the food but it would entertain your kitty’s miscreant1 and you for days of fun. Harms no one, is completely safe for the birds. Legal anywhere.I like squirrels fine myself but I don’t like feeding the greedy little tree rats since in my area we have plenty of natural food for them to eat, so they don’t really need to steal the bird seed.

Don’t wet the bird seed—-it will mildew, go sour, and be inedible.

Get a pellet gun, but don’t let Pasquale or his guardian angel see it!
