My catâs are declawed in the front, no sharp claws⊠And when I scratch them behind the ears, they tend to move their heads so that I scratch their ears properly, not just behind them. :)
When I was in college, a friend of mine had an orange cat much like Garfield. His name was Mao. Everytime I would go over to her house, Mao would jump into my lap and look at me in a tone that said, âScratch my ears or I will do to you what the vet did to me!â Poor Mao got hit by a car while chasing two dobermans. I miss that cat.
I concur with those who suggested having the cat checked for ear mites. Does the cat scratch in that area a lot even when youâre not scratching itâs ears? You might take a peek in the catâs ears and see if they have this black gakky stuff in them, those are mites. They can drive the cat nuts!
Cute last panel, I hope youâre purring Garfield.
Thatâs exactly like my friends cat, Mocha ⊠I was in his chair, using his computer⊠I felt two lil paws on my leg. I scratched her ears for a few seconds, and went back to comic reading. Then I have a 15 lb ball of Siamese fur in my lap. Ah how I love animals (and kids) that arenât mine. haha
Hey Llewellenbruce if money is a problem for you like it is for my wife and I try this: It works for both ear mite and dry ear problems. Weâve done this and itâs safe our Vet has agreed
Uh-oh! What does ear mite look like???? I never see ear mite before.
I had a short story about our family dog named, JG (Jay-Gee) was lost at Pyramid Lake for about 1-2 weeks. I went to Camp in Oregon in the summer time. I got the letter from my mother saying that JG was found and had a lot of ticks in her ears. Vets had to give her a shot to calm her down while taking the ticks out of her ears. She walked with her head tilt down. It was so hilariously funny!
I give our servicemen a lot more credit than that. I appreciate their sacrifice. Everyone I know who served our country did it because they really wanted to (with the exception of the Viet Nam draft).
Iâm pretty sure my cats donât have ear mites. They are
strictly in-door cats. Also cats that are outdoor cats
only have a life expectancy of about four years versus
about twelve or more years for in-door ones.
mrs luke? I donât follow you. Do you mean comparing Garfield to a drill sergeant is demeaning? It was a great delight to a Sgt to ask for a volunteer driver. Who wouldnât want to drive instead of marching 15 or 20 miles? Then they would give the âvolunteerâ a wheelbarrow. -or they would ask for three volunteers, âYou, you and youâ and give you shovels to dig slit latrines. Some drill Sergeants were plain mean. It still exists as witnessed by the present investigation where a young trooper was driven to suicide.
@legaleagle48
Youâre correct Jonâs profession in the strip was established as a cartoonist in the very first panel of the very first strip. However, in the feature film he is a commercial artist working out of his home.

that is exactly what my cat does, except sheâll start kneading her paws into me, with nice razor sharp nails.

My pug does the same thing. My friends cat will yowl until she gets scratched in exactly the right place.
I ask again - does Jon have a real job? Or am I the only one who doesnât know what he does for money? They spend a lot on lasagna!

And I answer again: Back in the very first Garfield strip (June 1978), it was established that Jon is a work-at-home cartoonist.

Mt cats start that way and then twist their head so I am rubbing under their chin. They LOVE that!

I love the way Garfield volunteers Jon.

Susan, That is exactly what I was thinking. Maybe Garfield was a drill Sgt in an earlier life?

I love Garfieldâs expression in the second panel.
âJon, if you donât scratch my ears, youâre gonna be sorry you didnât.â
pearlandpeach about 15 years ago
Llewellenbruce - take cat to vet !
in-door or our-door has nothing to do with the mites.
a head shaking cat has a problemâŠusually ear mites⊠if ears dirty - get to vet.

My cats have always been indoor cats and theyâve had earmites. Iâd take the cat to the vet or use the solution Paul M. posted about.

Personally, I would trust Jim Davisâ opinion of Jonâs profession over any Hollywood hype!

I always see Jon suffering his humiliation at Garfieldâs hand (paw?) and then going into his studio and turning it into todayâs comic!

Iâve said it before and Iâll say it again: if I had a cat that tried to bully me that way, Iâd put him down. With an elephant gun, if necessary.
