He could have used the name Rabe (which is German for crow) Some Rabe immigrants kept the name, others Anglicised and became Crow.(We have both in our area, and there was an instance where a Rabe married a Crow.)(Other interesting combinations were Roan – Sorreland Bolt – Nutt!)
