Once upon a blue moon, my mom was sweeping the front porch when our cat Cat brought up a very young rabbit — a very young live rabbit. Cat was carrying the rabbit in her mouth just like she might a kitten. Mom was not impressed and whacked Cat on the head with the broom. Cat was surprised enough to drop the rabbit. Rabbit took a moment to realize it wasn’t being carried any more, but was sitting on a cold, concrete porch. It then looked around, saw the cat, and ran like, well, like a rabbit. Last time Cat brought home any more surprises.
Number of years ago a co-worker told me a tale of a friend’s cat. He was visiting his friend and wondered why the friend’s cat was sitting in the hallway. Wouldn’t come over for an ear scratch and wouldn’t move to get a cat treat..When asked why, his friend said the cat had been outside and brought in a snack/toy. It was a garter snake. Apparently the cat brought the snake in, played with it and when the cat tired of play, sat on the snake to keep it warm and in one place. …… And no one was going near the cat!
