Now, don’t get down on me for this comment; but several years ago, there was a panhandler not far from our main office. He remained on the same intersection for several weeks, and from time to time I would slow and toss a buck or two into his bucket as I passed. There were always comments around the office regarding the unfortunate sole.Then suddenly, he was gone. Although I didn’t get it direct from our local police (I could have as I personally knew the chief quite well), I heard he was actually a professional panhandler, and made quite a bit of money with his career. It might have been an exception, of course; but, it was interesting nevertheless.
