Not that far-fetched — people like Rick Warren get to make money hand over fist (he’s worth something like $10 million) and still get the special treatment given to anyone who calls themselves a “church” (for example, tax-exempt status given according to much less rigorous criteria than that used for non-profits, and unlike other organizations, churches can’t be audited without a special IRS decision). So why shouldn’t Pilsbury get in on this sweet religious deal?
People do it all the time, call themselves some kind of religious organization and presto! freedom from taxes and regulations! Perhaps the most appalling example is that in fourteen states in the U.S., child care centers operated by religious organizations don’t have to adhere to basic standards of health and safety, and don’t even have to be licensed. So you can have a child-care center shut down on Monday because of numerous violations of fire and health codes, with one totally untrained adult responsible for 25 kids ….but they can just re-open on Tuesday as a “Christian Day Care” and then it’s all fine and they don’t have to fix anything.
I’d love to see enough people push the envelope on this stuff to make people take a good hard look at whether religious organizations should really get all these special rights they currently enjoy — SO MANY special rights!

“Plenty of minors go to jail, Cynthia.” But she is a very minor Minor, sort of in a minor league of her own. :)
No reason her scheme won’t work if done right. Make the pills a sacrament and the cost a “donation” and you might pull it off.
One more reason “churches” should pay the same taxes as everyone else.
Look up how much Manhattan property is owned tax free by one of the largest churches/landlords in the city.

Several churches already follow that business plan.
