I have a very nice kitchen table and chairs from Ikea. It only took my father-in-law and hubby about 45 minutes to assemble everything.

Put a grill together yesterday and had to remove a deck board to retrieve a bolt because I didn’t have a metric replacement so that added about an hour to the quick job my wife said it would be and I even put down a tarp so it didn’t happen and just watched it roll away and into the gap made father’s day fun.

They lie. When ever they say it will take say a hour to put together, triple it and you might come close as to how long it will take

Been there, done that. I assembled a propane grill and installed the gas jets upside down because the illustration was wrong. It took about 15 minutes to fix the problem. Grill works fine now.

Anytime I have to assemble anything, I keep wanting to rewrite the instructions. I actually applied a TI once and they said they only hire graduate engineers for that job. I told them that is why their products were only enjoyed by graduate engineers. What they needed for consumer products was to have the engineers teach me to use the product and I could then, as a professional nonfiction writer, explain it to the customers so they could understand it. I didn’t get the job. I still hold that this process should be used, even to the extent of having totally different directions in each language. I may cost insignificantly more, but customer satisfaction should be worth something.

I’ve never had an issue assembling furniture. Is it really that difficult, or is this just a storyline cliche’?
