The first time I golfed, it was a 9-hole course with 2 separate tee-off areas, so when you went through it the second time, the 1st hole was your 10th hole – I shot a 95 on the first 9, and figured I couldn’t do any worse the 2nd time through. I was wrong – got a 99 on the second 9 (I always counted every stroke). That was a grand total of 194. Fortunately, the worst I ever did after that was in the 140’s, but I never really got the hang of it – after a year and a half, with my best score being 119 (par 72), I quit playing.
First time I went out on a course, I shot 72 — on the front nine. Also shot 72 on the back nine. “Well,” said one of my playing partners, “at least you’re consistent.”
