    Hobbes, if you told Calvin what he was doing other half of the time, he would realize it’s a good thing he doesn’t remember.

    Ahhh, no wonder Calvin is so attached to Hobbes…they’ve been friends since the beginning! And, Calvin, you didn’t miss much…wet diapers (or worse), burping, enumerable baths, soppy cereals, strained vegetables, bibs, playpens, naps when you did Not want to sleep, visits and fussing over by numerous weird relatives (until you lose your cuteness by about six years old…), etc. ;)

    There’s a theory out there that children only begin to remember things when they begin talking in complete sentences. So yeah, depending on the child, three is about right.

    I read once if you can’t remember anything from your first three or four years, it means you had a very happy and harmonious time. I had a close childhood friend who left when I was three and who I don’t remember at all. Neither does she, even though we played together every day. We only know because of photos and renewed contact in later years.

    I blame it all on Mom and Dad. Why did they tell Calvin that he is six years old?

    Maybe Calvin already got Hobbes when he was a baby and that first strip is just about a game they played – catch a tiger or something.

    Regarding the first Calvin and Hobbes strip: In the case of the inanimate Hobbes, tuna fish is the stuff of life.

    Calvin and his pet tiger Hobbes are discussing Calvin’s early years. Calvin claims to have no memory of being infant and want to blame his parents for brainwashing him. Hobbes offers that Calvin spent a significant amount of his toddler years burping up.

    Weren’t there some strips that indicated Hobbes originally belonged to his Mom, and she passed him along to Calvin when he was old enough to appreciate him.?

    @Hobbes, help me out here.

    I wonder if there was a security blanket in Calvin’s past at some time, or maybe Hobbes was the security blanket.

    @MysteryCat: Hobbes originally belonged to Calvin’s Mom?

    I think that was some speculation in a Web blog.

    It depends on the book. I can rip through an action novel or cosy in a couple of hours, while other tomes require slow, savouring reading.
