While remodeling my mom’s kitchen, she, who was only 4’ 11", wanted me to install her wall cabinets 6 inches lower than “normal”. I told her that would seriously limit the amount of workspace over her countertop, and she asked if I could lower that too.

Having to use a cane comes in handy at times.

gently guiding the box or jar to the edge of the shelf .A cane can be very handy for that. Always have one with me.

Here in Earthquake Country, we have a rule: Nothing on the top shelves you wouldn’t want to have fall on your head. So our top kitchen shelves have paper products and plastic dishes, bowls, etc. Our canned good shelves have a strip of trim across the low front to keep cans from jiggling out (again.) Live and learn.

My grandmother used an old, long handled fork to get things she couldn’t reach. I still have it and use it for the same reason.
