Oh, that’s a shame, Beatriz. {sarcasm} That was really smooth, boys.

“Well, that too is important.”

When I first started working, my mother would be waiting at the door on payday for my paycheque. After my first marriage broke up and I came back home, I again started paying most of the household expenses. It was just the right thing to do.

That’s when the jokes end and the reality begins.

Ah Baldo, now don’t you feel like an a**.

Guys never get that. I had a (male) supervisor threaten me with “some of us have families.” I pointed out that, at a previous company, I had been feeding my family on thirteen thousand a year, when he froze the salaries.

He never threatened me again, anyway. I was the best worker he had.

I knew that Beatriz is a good person with integrity.

Oh I see now.

I went to school with a guy (15-16 y.o. at the time) who did. He got accepted to a prep school that would get him a full ride at any in-state university and he had to leave after a semester because they wouldn’t let you hold an after school job (too much studying.)

This isn’t a joke, is it? I mean—she isn’t just saying that so they will quit and she can keep the job…that would be low….

A long time ago, my workplace had “the layoff rumor” going around. An older married woman suggested to me that ALL of “us girls” should go to the office and volunteer, in order to save the jobs of the guys who had wives and children to take care of.

I told her she could do as she wished, but I wouldn’t volunteer. I asked her…who was paying for my apartment, my car, my food, and my bills? I told her I was, and as a self-supporting taxpaying person, I deserved MY job, too. If I get picked, then I’m unemployed…but I’ll not volunteer for it.

She was just working for extra spending money and time away from the kids. I was supporting myself, and not leaning on my family for ANY help.

Like I’ve said before, Baldo hooked up with the wrong girl.

too bad this is true for so many of us.When the middle class became a minority and poverty became so wide spread,, thoughts of wants like going to the movies, became out of reach for 100,000,000’s of people.I would have never thought that going to the movies, out to eat, buying a book, would become a luxury.People who haven’t been effected don’t really understand, and the politcians have often lived in the lap of luxury for as long as they can remember, have NO idea.
