    Yes, gradually as you explained what happened.

    I’ve seen engines go way more miles than that without an oil change. How low the oil level was is more likely the cause of the failure. Sorry, I’m a mechanic of many years and I couldn’t resist.

    Heck…I had a car that never had an oil change in the three years I drove it…just added more oil…used about as much oil as gas…best $50 car I ever owned…

    My Chevy Vega I had in the ‘80’s was like that. Pull into a gas station to check the gas and fill up the oil.

    Never buy a car with two cases of cheap oil in the trunk.

    I bought a ‘74 T Bird in 1980…use your imaginations to fill in the blanks on the unpleasantness that followed. I will only add two words toward that effort - “white smoke”.

    Nice lookin’ car, though.
