Heart: Whatcha go there, Mrs. Angelini? Mrs. Angelini: Oh, just a box of old photos. Heart: Hah! You got to get with the times, Mrs. A! I've got all my photos in a nice neat folder on my computer and I can watch a slide show anytime I want! Mrs. Angelini: Didn't your last computer crash and you lost everything? Mrs. Angelini: I've had this same old shoebox for over forty years and it still works fine. Heart: Technology is no match for an old lady set in her ways.

Yes indeed, nothing like a hard copy as a back-up, just in case.

I not only back my pictures up to an external hard drive on a regular basis (the drive my wife knows to go and grab should anything happen) but I also make sure to burn the archive to DVD and distribute it to the grandparents at regular intervals.

Mrs. Angelini knows how it works. And, since I very nearly had a similar problem once, my photos are now backed up on every computer in the house, a few CD ROMS, and a bag full of USB keys that come with me when I have to abandon the house due to disaster.

One of the main things that keeps me from going digital… so far.

Score one for Mrs. Angelini ! Still, I wonder what crashed. Mostly, the data can be recovered quite easily.

My ex-wife kept the paper photos, my computer crashed and ate the e-photos. Most of my life…Gone!
