Heart of the City by Steenz for March 01, 2010
Transcript:
Heart: Mom, did dad give you an engagement ring? Mom: Yes, he did...but we were young and he had no money, so it wasn't much of a diamond. Heart: Do you still have it? Mom: Oh, I haven't thought about it in so long I don't even know. Kat: Did you tell your mom you dropped her ring down the sink? Heart: No, but I think I'm in the clear.

Whatever happened to Dad, anyway? I don’t recall that being covered in a previous strip. Anyone know?

Hmmmm…
That’s a rerun, isn’t it?

Nope, copyright year says “2010”.

It’s a rerun, alas. I remember the story arc.
About the Dad, here’s what Wikipedia says, “Antonio Gallo: Heart’s father, never seen in the strip and thus far only referred to by his stage name. He left Addy just after Heart was born. An actor, and perhaps the source of Heart’s obsession with the theater, he was last known to be playing a one-man show about the life of Walt Disney.”

I remember this, too, so it’s definitely a rerun.

None of you would forget bout your rings, would you? :)

Hey Desultourist, do you know things like that by Heart (baaaad pun) or do you keep an archive?
Anyway, I didn’t realize until now how long I’m already following this strip…

We have seen her dad. Heart made him an ashtray when she was younger. Then one day she found out that he was playing in New York. She snuck off to find him, but got to the theater just after he’d left. When her mother caught up with her, they walked away from the theater and Heart threw the ashtray into a garbage can. We saw her father, from behind, pick it out of the trash. We never saw his face, and the story line died there.
