Darn it, I hate it when Gracie is right.

Reading a book while she has a visitor? Not only is Gracie obnoxious, she has go grace.

I thought we’d have more lay off strips.

Being smart isn’t annoying. Smart people being condescending is what’s annoying.

I see.

Groan!We get it Grace. Your a flipping genius.You so inspire. Go to some college far far away!

But it is okay for great athletes to rub their superiority in other people faces? Sports are celebrated, intelligence is denigrated.

The thing is, she never seems happy with learning things for their own sake. It’s always part of a narrative in which she’s talking about how she’s different (and, it is implied, better) than other kids.

Here’s the difference:

Kid One: Wow! Did you know that gravity is what holds planets in an orbit? And that you can use math to predict how those orbits will decay? It’s so cool!

Kid Two: I really like reading about gravity, unlike all those other kids. It’s going to help me get into college.

Gracie is Kid Two.
